Hamburgs Mayor Ole von Beust, Denmarks Crown Prince couple Mary and Frederik arrive to Hamburg City Hall for the traditional Matthiae Meal.
The Matthiae Meal, is considered the oldest feast in the world, that is still celebrated. In mediaeval times Matthiae (Mathew Day, traditionally february 24th) was springtime and the time to do weather rules or let oracles determine when the farmers planted their seedlings. This year the Matthiae Meal celebrates good cooperation between the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea.
